SS Dominator Shipwreck

If you’re into not-so-average adventures, look no further. This hike in Palos Verdes (down a rather steep, craggy cliff) leads down to the SS Dominator Shipwreck. Perhaps I’ve always had an interest in the slightly macabre, so I found the Dominator graveyard to be hauntingly beautiful. Let’s have a look, shall we?

We took the Drain Pipe Trail down to the beach (and from there, it’s perhaps a mile one-way until you reach the shipwreck location), but I believe there are other ways to get up/down. We just chose the least scary-looking route!

Shoutout to Leroy!

Normally I’m opposed to disrupting nature – growing up, we were always taught to leave things as you found them – but these random moments of inspiration paintedΒ along the beach were quite nice.

The rusty ship parts have paintedΒ the entire area a burnt orange hue. It’s utterly beautiful.

If you plan to do this hike, wear comfortable, supportive shoes; I can’t tell you how many times we nearly rolled our ankles while trekking over the loose rocks. Yikes.

It’s finally (officially) spring – get out there! A little outdoor inspiration: one // two // three
